New Area Commissioner - Craig Middle
04/09/2019 By Gareth Tanswell

A new Commissioner has been appointed for Mid Glamorgan following the retirement of Margaret Hopkin from the role.

Craig Middle will take over as Area Commissioner at the AGM in September.

Chair of Mid Glamorgan and Chair of the Search Group, Ken Hinton said, “I am pleased to welcome Craig back to the team, it is an exciting time for scouting in the area and I know that Craig will build on the excellent work that Margaret has led during her time in the role. Craig has been a member of the movement since the age of 8 and a Queen Scout.  He has been a Scout Leader, Assistant Area Commissioner for Explorer Scouts and District Commissioner for RCT.  He has a clear plan on how the Area can support local Scout groups to grow and thrive as well as overcome challenges that we face.

“It has been a pleasure to work alongside Margaret over the last five years and I will say a proper thank you for all that she has given to scouting at the AGM at the end of September.”

Chief Commissioner for Wales, Rhian Moore added, “We are at a critical time for scouting in Wales and we have an amazing opportunity to do things differently so we can support even more young people to be amazing and develop skills that will set them up for life.

“Listening to Craig through the recruitment process it is clear that has great ideas and understands the challenges we face in the Area and is ready to support members in Districts and Groups to thrive. Volunteers in Mid Glamorgan are already doing fantastic things for young people. Both as an assistant leader in Pencoed and as Chief Commissioner I have seen the excellent things Margaret has done which has meant groups have grown and Scouts have been attaining their top awards. It is now about building on the strong foundations Margaret has put in place and for scouting to go from strength to strength.”

Ken concluded, “Please join me in welcoming Craig to the role. I am confident that Craig will support you all, and work with the team in ScoutsCymru and other Area Commissioners in South Wales to collaborate and cooperate to support Scouting in Mid Glamorgan the best it can be.”
